Priestess of The Good

Sister, long misunderstood
Misrepresented
Priestess of The Good
At worst portrayed
Prostitute, possessed
Somehow sick and
Repentant at best

They had to
They had to
Make you less

For you were more
Than they could bear
More than bare breasts
And perfumed hair~

First Awake!
Most Aware!

Not coincidentally there
But The One Who *Knew*
And so could *See*
The Song of Songs
That sets us free

Oh, Magdalene!
Come, sing through me!
Oh, Magdalene!
Oh, Mary!

~Cheryl Anne Maris

  1. She has become a special companion on life’s journey. When I was researching her story in preparation for my sermon “Mary Magdalene: Apostle to the Apostles” back in Colorado. I really love these lines— They had to
    They had to
    Make you less

    For you were more
    Than they could bear
    More than bare breasts
    And perfumed hair~

She was more than they could bear… patriarchy at its worst!

    1. The practice of Christianity would certainly be different today if Her Way of
understanding and teaching the Wisdom of Jesus had been embraced and not feared and dismissed.
