Call To Iona

A cool wind
blew in this day,
and thick, steel-grey clouds
cut a sun-filled,
otherwise blue sky.

My heart at once
became a playground
for otter and sheep,
a nesting place for gull,
tern and puffin.

The Abbey bells
began to sound
on the distant edge
of my soul’s Caledonian shores…

a call to remember
a call to worship
a call to Iona.
